Josh Allen goes Dolphin hunting: Bills v Dolphins week 2 recap
Did he do it again or did he do it again? Last week I mentioned how he was the first Bills QB since 2016 to get over 300 yards of offence. He follows that up with a career high 417 yards and 4 TD's putting on a clinic against the Dolphins secondary. Let's take a look at how the day broke down and how we pulled off a 31-28 heart attack win
The Offence: After a weak first drive that saw Diggs and Knox as the only two really getting targets, spreading it out on the second drive and getting John Brown and Cole Beasley (who made some unbelievable catches) involved got the boys going and got the team moving. A 11 play, 97 yard scoring drive was capped off by rookie Reggie Gilliam getting his first TD of his career on his first play of his young NFL career.
The Defence: So i'm not saying we have a big problem but the interior of the defence looked ROUGH especially in the second half. Starting off the game with a Sack on the Dolphins first drive was a nice preview of what the defence would do during the first half holding them to only one TD and a FG would make you think we were clicking.
The second half started off with a lightning delay which normally would be a minor inconvenience but after the CBS power outage it was a Pain in the ass being subjected to watch more Steelers v Broncos. Whatever Brian Flores said to his guys during the delay worked because the Dolphins came out firing on all cylinders, Fitzmagic started making these unbelievable throws to Gesicki who would follow them up with these unreal catches. After handling him as well as we could, Myles Gaskin continued with his performance in the second to plow through our d-line and linebackers; with even Fitzy getting some runs off our run D looked shaky at best and Ed Oliver coming off the field didn't inspire any hope. They were however able to put together an awesome goal line stand to hold off the Dolphins from scoring but still let in two more TD's after that, thankfully for them Josh Allen was able to piece together a couple more TD's to cover our asses.
Special Teams: Can we talk about Tyler Bass? After just some dogshit kicks last week he really got it together this week, nailing field goals (those would end up becoming important points down the stretch when it got tight). He was even booting the kickoffs looking great out there, I know kickers just stink out loud these days so I'm being thankful for a great day for Tyler Bass. Andre Roberts is looking better on the punt return game i'm hopeful he can return to a few years ago when he was leading the league in kickoff return yards and second in punt return yards.
Final Thoughts: Josh Allen shines for two weeks in a row showing all of the haters what's what, him along with Diggs are going to need keep it rolling as we head back home and welcome the 2-0 Rams who are coming off of two big wins smoking the Cowboys and the Eagles in the process. It's obviously easier said than done but the way we spread the ball out today has me hopeful and should have visions of Stefon Diggs torching Jalen Ramsey while "the Bills make me want to shout" plays in the background floating around in your head.
